Adjal announces launch of 40 MW power plant in N’Djamena

Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies Mr. Mourad Adjal announced during an official visit to Niamey that the cornerstone laying ceremony for a new 40 megawatt power plant in N’Djamena will take place within the next few days. The project is being implemented by Sonelgaz International as part of its strategic expansion across the African continent.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the Algerian-Nigerien solidarity power plant in Gorou Banda (Niamey), which was attended by the Algerian Prime Minister Mr. Sifi Ghrieb and his Nigerien counterpart Mr. Ali Lamine Zeine Mahaman, Mr. Adjal emphasized the successful completion of the Niamey project. He highlighted Sonelgaz International’s proven track record in delivering major energy projects outside national borders within strict deadlines.

The minister also revealed that the company has already initiated preparations for several new projects across Africa, starting with the 40 megawatt power plant in Chad. The groundbreaking ceremony for this project is scheduled to occur in the coming days.

Mr. Adjal noted the growing demand for Sonelgaz International’s expertise from multiple African nations, including Côte d’Ivoire and Mozambique. He confirmed that these initiatives align with the company’s ambitious energy programs, leveraging its technical know-how and efficiency in project execution.

According to the minister, Sonelgaz International will serve as a catalyst for both public and private Algerian enterprises by integrating them into all project phases through a value-chain approach. This strategy aims to strengthen the presence of national expertise and companies in African markets.

Recall that Algeria and Chad signed an agreement in May to construct the N’Djamena power plant, reinforcing bilateral cooperation in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision to support African nations and foster South-South solidarity.
