Chad’s prime minister, Allamaye Halina, today highlighted the deep and growing ties between his country and Algeria during the groundbreaking ceremony for a new 40-megawatt power plant in N’Djamena. He praised Algeria’s continuous support for Chad and underscored the fraternal bonds and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
Halina expressed heartfelt gratitude to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Algerian people for this solidarity initiative, which he said will bolster Chad’s electricity generation capacity, improve energy supply, and support broader economic and social development efforts.
A milestone in algerian-chadian cooperation
Speaking at the ceremony, Halina welcomed his Algerian counterpart, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, and the accompanying delegation. He noted that Ghrieb’s presence reflects the quality of friendship and cooperation between the two nations and their shared commitment to deepening ties for the benefit of their peoples.
The prime minister emphasised that the project embodies the shared vision of Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Both leaders, he said, are working to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The groundbreaking represents more than a construction launch—it symbolises a joint ambition to deploy cooperation for sustainable development, economic prosperity, and improved living standards. The project builds on commitments made at the highest level, including a memorandum of understanding signed on April 22, 2026, and a grant agreement concluded on May 14, 2026, between sectoral ministries of both countries.
Halina praised the speed with which these pledges were turned into concrete action, attributing it to the quality of dialogue between the two governments and the effective collaboration between Chadian and Algerian technical teams.
Strengthening Chad’s energy sector
The Algerian government is providing a mobile gas turbine power plant with a capacity of 40 megawatts. Halina described this as a significant contribution to Chad’s efforts to strengthen its energy system and meet the growing needs of its population.
He noted that the gesture is part of a long history of fraternity, friendship, and cooperation between the two countries. On behalf of the president, government, and people of Chad, he expressed sincere appreciation to Algeria’s president, prime minister, government, and all institutions and technical teams involved.
Expected benefits of the N’Djamena power plant
- Improved access to electricity for the population
- Enhanced stability of the electrical grid
- Support for economic and productive activities
- Better quality of public services
- Accommodation of the rapid growth of the capital city
Halina said the positive impacts will reach many households, schools, health facilities, and businesses. He reaffirmed the Chadian government’s commitment to ensuring the project’s success through respect for agreements, facilitation of administrative and logistical procedures, support for technical teams, site security, and rigorous monitoring of work execution.
A symbol of african solidarity
The prime minister described the power plant as an example of successful African cooperation built on trust, effectiveness, and results. He said it demonstrates that Africa has within itself the resources, skills, and solidarity needed to tackle development challenges.
Halina emphasised that the project is more than an energy infrastructure—it is a symbol of trust, fraternity, and exemplary cooperation between Chad and Algeria. It celebrates the historic friendship between N’Djamena and Algiers and represents pragmatic diplomacy between the two nations.
He expressed hope that Algerian expertise and training of Chadian technicians could ensure autonomous management of the facility, which serves as a diplomatic bridge uniting the two peoples around shared sovereignty, prosperity, and trust. Halina concluded by wishing that this project be the first of many joint initiatives in energy, infrastructure, health, training, and economic development.
Long live the friendship between the Chadian and Algerian peoples! Long live African solidarity in the service of development!
