AS FAR challenges CAF over Jean-Jacques Ndala’s appointment for Champions League final
With the first leg of the CAF Champions League final just two weeks away, Morocco’s AS FAR has voiced strong opposition to the appointment of Congolese referee Jean-Jacques Ndala for the highly anticipated clash against South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
In an official statement, the Rabat-based club expressed serious concerns about Ndala’s selection, citing his controversial officiating during the chaotic 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal. The club pointed to key decisions that raised eyebrows, including the failure to penalize Senegal for abandoning the pitch on January 18 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium and the absence of yellow cards for fouls upon their return.
AS FAR calls for immediate referee replacement
The club’s dissatisfaction deepens given that Ndala was previously suspended by FIFA from officiating at the 2026 World Cup due to his performance in the same 2025 CAN final. AS FAR is now demanding his immediate removal from the upcoming Champions League final, scheduled for May 17 in Pretoria, South Africa.
This stance reflects growing unease across Morocco regarding Ndala’s appointment, as fans and officials alike question the consistency and fairness of his refereeing record.
