CEP 2026: government ensures school meals for exam candidates

As the 2026 Primary School Certificate (CEP) exams approach, the Beninese government has implemented a strategic move to support young learners. In an official directive, Salimane Karimou, Minister of Preschool and Primary Education, has mandated the continuation of school meal services during the exam period, running from June 1 to June 4, 2026.

Ensuring consistency for eligible schools

This decision specifically targets schools already participating in the National Integrated School Feeding Program (PNASI). For these institutions, the midday break won’t mean students must leave campus or struggle to find food. Instead, they’ll receive a nutritious hot meal on-site, just as they do during regular school days.

Safeguarding student performance

Minister Salimane Karimou emphasizes that interrupting meal services during the most critical academic period could undermine exam outcomes. In his communication to regional directors, he states:

A significant number of CEP candidates rely on these meals daily throughout their schooling. Withholding them during exam week could negatively affect their concentration and performance.

The goal is to prevent hunger-related stress or physiological strain that might distract students during afternoon sessions.

Rigorous logistical oversight

Maintaining meal services across the country requires meticulous coordination. Regional directors have been instructed to ensure sufficient food supplies and operational service providers throughout the four-day exam period.

This initiative underscores the critical role school feeding programs play in academic success. By guaranteeing consistent nutrition, the ministry equips candidates from eligible areas with the physical and mental resilience needed to face their exams confidently.

Parents of students in affected schools can rest assured: the meal program will continue uninterrupted until the final exam papers are submitted on June 4.
