Financial aid reaches Mali despite persistent hardships

L’association continue d’œuvrer au Mali.

The 16th general assembly of the Support Association for the Village of Forgho in northern Mali took place recently. Opening the meeting, President Marie-Jo Mennelet shared the worrying situation in the country: “I don’t have very good news from Mali — the nation is going through even harder times than before.” Jihadist attacks, shortages, water and electricity cuts, rising prices, and extreme heat all make daily life exhausting for the population.

Despite the difficult circumstances, the association maintains a strong bond with its friends in Forgho and Bamako. It continues to respond to their needs with loyalty and solidarity. In her activity report, Mennelet highlighted that the schools in Forgho and Kotchekaraï remain open, unlike many institutions in northern and central Mali. Although no new sponsorships were launched this year, ongoing sponsorships continue thanks to the generosity of members and donors.

The aid provided covered school supplies for the new term, the canteen, DEF exams, medicines, seeds, and various maintenance works in schools and villages. Few events were organized this year, but the association still received donations from concerts and theatre performances. The financial report remains positive, with income mainly from donations, membership fees, and sponsorships. Expenditures prioritized school assistance, medicines, seeds, the Bamako orphanage, and various one-off supports for families and teachers.

After unanimous adoption of both reports and renewal of board members, the assembly closed with the traditional friendly drinks and convivial exchanges.
