Why the new financial rules for student visas?

The French embassy in Yaoundé has clarified the rationale behind the tightened financial prerequisites for student visa applicants from Cameroun. During a press briefing in the capital, officials highlighted a surge in fraudulent practices within visa applications processed through Campus France.

Rising fraudulent activity

Muriel Piquet-Viaux, Advisor for Cooperation and Cultural Action, pointed to widespread irregularities, including forged bank statements, tampered financial records, fake identity documents, and misleading financial proofs. Consular authorities have responded by strengthening verification protocols to scrutinize every submitted document.

New conditions for private institution applicants

Camerounian students admitted to private French institutions must now provide proof of full tuition payment or demonstrate access to the entire required funds before a visa can be issued. For those who have already paid a deposit, embassy officials note that conditions vary by institution, but reassure that blocked funds will be released once the visa is granted.

Cameroun singled out in Africa

To date, Cameroun remains the only African nation subjected to these enhanced financial conditions for French student visas—a move that continues to spark concern and pushback from affected families.
