A French national, apprehended in August 2025 by Mali’s military leadership on charges of conspiring against national institutions, has been handed a 20-year prison sentence by the criminal chamber of the specialized counter-terrorism court.
The Malian judiciary has imposed a 20-year custodial sentence on a French intelligence operative, who held diplomatic status and has been detained for nearly ten months in the capital, Bamako. The conviction stems from charges of “undermining state security” in the Sahelian nation, which is currently governed by a military junta. This significant development in African politics comes after a trial before the specialized judicial body.
