During the celebrations marking France’s national holiday at the French embassy in Libreville, Ambassador Fabrice Mauriès revealed that President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema will undertake a state visit to Paris in the coming days. The diplomat described this as the highest level of diplomatic protocol and a landmark step in deepening bilateral ties.
The ambassador made the announcement before Gabonese officials, the diplomatic corps, and French community representatives, stating that “in the next few days, His Excellency the President of the Gabonese Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, will travel to Paris for a state visit—the highest diplomatic level—which will mark a decisive milestone in strengthening our relationship.”
Mauriès emphasized that this development builds on exchanges initiated in 2023, recalling the Gabonese head of state’s official visit to Paris in spring 2024 and President Emmanuel Macron’s subsequent trip to Libreville. “This partnership, which continues to expand, is in constant redefinition,” he noted, adding that these high-level meetings signal a fresh phase in Franco-Gabonese cooperation.

The ambassador reaffirmed France’s stance on Gabon’s transition, declaring that “France did not interfere, as it is solely up to the Gabonese people to determine their nation’s future.” He assured that “France has remained and will continue to be a reliable, steadfast, and committed partner, dedicated to helping Gabonese citizens forge a new collective future.”
He also announced that the upcoming visit will solidify a new economic partnership vision between the two countries. “We will build a mutually beneficial, win-win partnership that the President of Gabon envisions, and which President Macron has confirmed aligns with our shared goals,” he stated, adding that “new projects embodying this vision will be unveiled in Paris in the coming days.”
Since the regime change in August 2023, Gabon and France have progressively reshaped their bilateral relations. The reciprocal visits by Presidents Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and Emmanuel Macron have ushered in a new era of political, economic, and security cooperation. The Gabonese head of state’s state visit to Paris is expected to further cement this rapprochement, with several strategic projects set to be announced to bolster ties between the two nations.
