Ambassador Arrouchi emphasized that the Skhirat Agreement, signed in December 2015 with United Nations backing, continues to serve as the cornerstone for a lasting solution to Libya’s prolonged crisis. He reiterated Morocco’s support for national reconciliation and dialogue initiatives among Libya’s competing political factions.
The Ambassador also praised the African Union’s role in promoting peace and stability across the continent, particularly its efforts to facilitate a political settlement in Libya. He noted Morocco’s active involvement in bridging divides between Libyan representatives from both eastern and western regions.

Arrouchi highlighted the progress made through talks held in Tripoli and Zenten, which culminated in a landmark agreement signed in Tripoli on January 7, 2026. This accord brought together factions from Libya’s Government of National Unity and the eastern-based government, marking a significant step toward national cohesion.
Morocco’s diplomatic engagement in Libya aligns with international legality and the principles outlined in both the Skhirat Agreement and the Bouznika understandings. The Kingdom continues to advocate for political solutions over military confrontation, reinforcing its commitment to Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The Moroccan delegation’s presentation at the African Union underscores the Kingdom’s long-standing position as a key player in regional stability efforts, particularly in North Africa.
