Political analysts question Diomaye and Sonko’s public feud strategy

In a recent television appearance, Oumar Sarr, a former minister and prominent figure within the Front for the Defense of Democracy and the Republic (FDR), cast a critical eye on the public dynamics between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. His remarks have reignited debates about the true nature of their relationship and the potential implications for governance in Senegal.

Speaking as a guest on a widely watched political talk show, Sarr, who also serves as Mayor of Dagana, highlighted the growing public confusion surrounding the supposed disagreements between the two leaders. While no official statements have confirmed internal tensions, the persistent rumors have fueled speculation. « There are those who believe fundamental policy disagreements exist, » he noted, « yet the absence of clear confirmation leaves the public in the dark. »

Is this a political strategy or real discord?

The former PDS official did not shy away from expressing his skepticism about the coherence of the executive’s approach. « At times, the situation appears to reflect genuine disagreements, while at other moments, it seems as though Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko are simply disregarding public opinion, » he observed.

Sarr suggested that the visible friction between the president and his prime minister might be less about actual conflict and more about a calculated political performance. « Some interpret this as real opposition, while others see it as a carefully staged political drama, » he explained. This ambiguity, he implied, could be a deliberate tactic to manage public perception or divert attention from pressing national issues.
