The second consecutive UEFA Champions League triumph by Paris Saint-Germain did not translate into record-breaking television ratings this time around. While the club’s historic 5-0 victory over Inter Milan last season drew an average of 11.5 million viewers, the PSG-Arsenal final saw a notable decline in audience figures.
On Saturday evening, 6.2 million viewers tuned in to M6 for the live broadcast, with viewership peaking at 13.5 million during the dramatic conclusion. Canal+ attracted an additional 2.9 million spectators. Compared to the previous year, this represented a drop of more than 2 million viewers on free-to-air television.
Tennis takes center stage against football finale
A scheduling clash with the French Open’s third-round clash featuring rising tennis star Moïse Kouamé significantly impacted football viewership. The 17-year-old phenom, who sports a Paris Saint-Germain jersey off the pitch, faced Alejandro Tabilo at the Suzanne-Lenglen Court beginning at 16:15 local time—just 15 minutes before the football final kicked off.
Despite the timing conflict, Kouamé still managed to draw 3 million viewers to his match. His post-game remarks captured the dual drama of the day: “I watched the penalties—they were the worst part, I think!” he joked, draped in PSG colors after his four-set defeat (6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-7[9-11]).
“It’s a small consolation for my loss,” he added with characteristic humor. The young French player’s performance under pressure only added to the shared spectacle of sport on the same evening.
