The Alliance for the Republic (APR) has expressed its “profound indignation” following the arrest of its colleague, Pape Malick Ndour. This detention is part of a committal order issued in connection with the ongoing PRODAC affair.
In an official statement, the party led by former President Macky Sall directly implicates Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, asserting that he was the first to announce this “hostage-taking” and identifying him as the “mastermind” behind it.
The APR contends that the accusations against Ndour are based on a purported 2018 report from the Inspectorate General of Finance (IGF), despite Pape Malick Ndour only being appointed to PRODAC in June 2019. For the party, such a discrepancy cannot form a serious legal basis leading to the “judicial sequestration of an honest citizen who performed excellent work as PRODAC coordinator.”
The party of Macky Sall further criticizes the accounting expertise report, which underpins the prosecution, describing it as non-contradictory and founded on “very weak assertions that contradict reality.”
According to the APR, the alleged transgressions against Ndour are of “disconcerting triviality.” The party vehemently denounces the “systematic recourse to measures depriving individuals of liberty in cases where the fundamental guarantees of a fair procedure appear gravely undermined.”
The APR finds it particularly “concerning that a decision with such grave consequences for individual liberties could rest on elements of such lightness, insufficiently contradictory, or manifestly false.”
Furthermore, the party of Macky Sall reiterates its deep concern that “a decision so impactful on individual freedoms could be based on such flimsy, insufficiently corroborated, or demonstrably false evidence, considering the alleged facts.”
Through this entire ordeal, the APR believes a broader issue concerning the respect for defense rights, the presumption of innocence, and public liberties is at stake. Faced with this situation, the party declares its refusal to allow “our democracy to descend into a logic of criminalization of the opposition and intimidation of political leaders.”
The APR reaffirms its unwavering, total, and unconditional support for Pape Malick Ndour, as well as his family, associates, and legal counsel. It urges all activists, members, and leaders of the party to remain mobilized, vigilant, and united against any “attempt to challenge democratic principles and fundamental freedoms.”
Finally, the APR holds the Government “solely and exclusively responsible for any harm to the physical and moral integrity of Pape Malick Ndour.” It demands Pape Malick Ndour’s immediate and unconditional release.
The party concludes by affirming its steadfast commitment to standing alongside all those who endure injustice, “with the conviction that justice will always triumph over arbitrary rule.”
