In a bold move to modernize its security apparatus, Benin has dissolved the Direction des services de liaison et de documentation (Dsld) and established the new Direction générale des services (Dgs).
The restructuring initiative comes as the West African nation faces escalating security challenges, including terrorism and cross-border crime. The Dgs is now tasked with enhancing intelligence gathering, analysis, and strategic threat assessment while strengthening interagency collaboration to safeguard national stability.
Continuity in leadership
Captain Orphée Hounkanrin, who previously led the Dsld, has been retained as the head of the new intelligence agency. His continued leadership signals the government’s confidence in his strategic vision and operational expertise. Under his guidance, the Dgs is expected to refine Benin’s intelligence capabilities, ensuring a more agile and responsive security framework.
While specific achievements of the Dsld remain undisclosed due to classified protocols, the decision to maintain its former director at the helm of the Dgs underscores the administration’s satisfaction with past performance. This leadership continuity reflects Benin’s commitment to building a robust and forward-thinking intelligence infrastructure.
