High-level talks between Burkina Faso and Serbia have opened new avenues for bilateral collaboration, with both nations expressing strong interest in deepening ties across key sectors. On June 3, 2026, a Serbian parliamentary delegation led by Slavenko Ristic, Chairman of the Defence and Security Commission, met with Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, accompanied by Deputy Minister Bêbgnasgnan Stella Eldine Kabré/Kaboré.
The Serbian delegation, visiting Ouagadougou for working discussions, focused on exploring partnership opportunities in defence, security, and professional training. During the meeting, Mr. Ristic highlighted Serbia’s admiration for Burkina Faso’s strategic direction under President Ibrahim Traoré, emphasizing the nation’s growing role in shaping Africa’s future.

« Burkina Faso’s leadership is being closely watched and widely respected in our country », Mr. Ristic stated, adding that Serbia views Africa as a critical partner in global development. « We are determined to be part of Africa’s future », he declared, underscoring Belgrade’s commitment to strengthening ties with the continent.
Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré praised Serbia’s proactive engagement, calling it a sign of the growing interest from Eastern European nations in Burkina Faso. He pointed out that both countries hold untapped potential for mutually beneficial cooperation and stressed Ouagadougou’s strategy of diversifying international partnerships.
« We are actively seeking reliable partners to build sustainable, win-win alliances », he explained. The Burkinabè official also shared Burkina Faso’s vision for broader African-European relations, urging Serbia to help bridge understanding between the two regions at European forums.

In response, Mr. Ristic pledged to advocate for Burkina Faso and Africa within European decision-making circles, aiming to foster more balanced cooperation between Europe and African nations. The meeting signals a significant step forward in strengthening relations between Ouagadougou and Belgrade, as Burkina Faso continues to expand its international partnerships.
