Burkina Faso launches digital solidarity platform Dɛmɛ Sira

Ouagadougou — Burkina Faso has taken a bold step toward modernizing its social governance with the official launch of the Dɛmɛ Sira digital platform. Designed to harness technology for national solidarity, this initiative marks a turning point in how the country mobilizes resources and support for vulnerable populations.

The launch ceremony, held on June 2, 2026, at the heart of the capital, was led by Lieutenant-Colonel Passowendé Pélagie Kabré/Kaboré, Minister of Family and Solidarity, with Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabané, Minister of Digital Transition, Posts, and Electronic Communications, serving as the event’s patron.

Breaking down barriers to solidarity

Dɛmɛ Sira—a name derived from the Moore language meaning “the path of solidarity”—is a digital gateway that bridges the gap between citizens and social initiatives. The platform enables Burkinabè citizens, both at home and abroad, to contribute directly to humanitarian and social programs, fostering transparency and accessibility in public solidarity efforts.

Available through the Ministry of Solidarity’s official portal, the platform is more than just a tool; it represents a strategic shift in public policy, integrating digital innovation to create a more inclusive and efficient system of social support.

Empowering citizens through technology

During the launch, Minister Kabré/Kaboré emphasized the government’s commitment to building a solidarity model that leverages digital opportunities. She highlighted the collaborative effort behind the platform’s development, acknowledging the technical and institutional teams whose work made this vision a reality.

The initiative aims to strengthen citizen engagement while improving the traceability, efficiency, and accessibility of social actions. By providing a direct channel for contributions, Dɛmɛ Sira empowers individuals to play an active role in shaping the nation’s social fabric.

Digital public platforms: A growing trend in Africa

The launch of Dɛmɛ Sira reflects a broader trend across Africa, where digital public platforms are evolving beyond administrative services to become instruments of civic participation and social cohesion. Burkina Faso’s move underscores the continent’s growing reliance on technology to address pressing societal challenges.

As digital transformation reshapes governance in Africa, initiatives like Dɛmɛ Sira demonstrate how innovation can foster unity and resilience in the face of adversity.
