Diplomatic visit faure gnassingbé Uganda talks regional stability

Faure Gnassingbé, the Togolese head of state, is set to embark on an official visit to Kampala on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the invitation of Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. This diplomatic mission aims to strengthen the cooperative ties between Togo and Uganda.

The Togolese leader will hold a private meeting with his Ugandan counterpart, focusing on critical regional concerns such as peace, security, and African integration. The discussions come amid ongoing tensions in the Great Lakes region, where instability continues to pose challenges.

During his stay, Faure Gnassingbé will also attend the official inauguration ceremony of Yoweri Museveni, who secured re-election in the general polls held on January 15, 2026. The event, expected to draw numerous African heads of state, government officials, and international delegates, underscores the significance of regional solidarity.

According to a statement from the Togolese presidency, this visit highlights the shared commitment of both nations to deepen political and diplomatic collaboration. Lomé and Kampala have maintained regular consultations on pressing African security issues, including the prolonged armed conflict and humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

By prioritizing dialogue and regional stability, Togo reaffirms its dedication to fostering stronger ties and collective progress among African nations.
