The Spanish top-flight league has announced the postponement of the highly anticipated clash between Celta Vigo and Osasuna, originally scheduled for Sunday at 21:30 during the opening fixture of the new season.
Pitch concerns have forced the Liga’s governing body to take decisive action. Inspections conducted on Wednesday revealed severe fungal damage to the playing surface at Balaídos, Celta Vigo’s home ground, prompting an immediate rescheduling.
New date and kick-off time confirmed
Both clubs and LaLiga officials have agreed on a revised date of Thursday, 27 August, at 20:30. This decision, made in close consultation with the Royal Spanish Football Federation, underscores LaLiga’s autonomy in managing fixture adjustments without further external approval.
Impact on the opening weekend
With this latest postponement, four matches have now been deferred from the first matchday. The affected fixtures include:
- Valencia vs Real Betis
- Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad
- Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao
- Celta Vigo vs Osasuna
LaLiga has clarified that the revised schedule will be finalized independently, reflecting its expanded decision-making authority implemented midway through the previous season.
