Mali’s army regains control in key conflict zones

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared that they have regained the upper hand and secured all targeted zones following coordinated attacks by the Azawad Liberation Front in the northern regions and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda-affiliated group, in central and southern Mali.

Military operations intensify in northeastern Mali

In a formal statement, the FAMA detailed ongoing clashes in Anifif, located in the northeastern part of the country, approximately 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The military reported that reinforcements had arrived to bolster the Azawad Liberation Front‘s positions, prompting a robust response from Malian troops.

The army’s communiqué emphasized: “Confronted with these pressure tactics, our units demonstrated unwavering resolve, continuing the fight with exceptional bravery and military precision throughout the day.”

It further reaffirmed the FAMA’s unshakable confidence in its ability to safeguard Mali’s sovereignty, protect civilian lives, and decisively defeat hostile forces.

Rebel group denies leadership losses

A spokesperson for the Azawad Liberation Front, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had earlier claimed control over Anfif after renewed hostilities. He categorically refuted reports of the death of the group’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, asserting that the commander remains actively engaged in directing military operations across northern Mali.
