An extraordinary scene unfolded recently in Cité Keur Gorgui, where the political bureau of PASTEF convened at the residence of its prominent leader, Ousmane Sonko.
As the important gathering progressed, with journalists gathered outside, Mamadou Goumbala arrived without an official invitation. His unannounced presence immediately drew the attention of the media and others waiting near the property.
Addressing the cameras directly, Goumbala delivered a powerful political message, advocating for a reduction in what he perceived as growing tensions between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko.
He argued emphatically that any disagreements at the highest levels of the state should not overshadow the urgent expectations of the Senegalese populace. He stressed the critical need for the nation’s leaders to concentrate on the everyday concerns of citizens, particularly pressing social and economic challenges.
“The internal disputes among our leaders must cease,” he asserted before the assembled journalists. “We elected them to alleviate the hardships faced by the Senegalese people, not for the sake of political maneuvering.”
Mamadou Goumbala further implored both key figures to safeguard their political understanding, emphasizing that their collective unity remains fundamental for the sustained effectiveness of public initiatives. He reiterated that citizens are primarily looking for tangible achievements, rather than being subjected to internal political confrontations.
In this spirit, he proposed that the observed internal frictions within the ruling majority could necessitate the establishment of broader platforms for dialogue. Such frameworks, he suggested, would be crucial for strengthening cohesion and collective purpose within the current administration.
