D’une superbe demi-volée, Luke Shaw a ouvert le score très tôt dans le match pour Manchester United.

Already confirmed for the upcoming Champions League, Manchester United solidified their third-place standing and delivered another attacking masterclass at Old Trafford this Sunday, triumphing over Nottingham Forest with a 3-2 scoreline on the 37th Premier League matchday.

Manchester United continued their impressive late-season form. Facing a Nottingham Forest side already safe from relegation but still reeling from their Europa League semi-final exit against Aston Villa (1-0, 0-4), the Red Devils quickly established control, largely thanks to Luke Shaw’s early intervention.

The English international, who boasts 34 caps for his country and hadn’t found the net in nearly three years, broke the deadlock in just the 4th minute with a magnificent low half-volley from the edge of the penalty area. Michael Carrick’s squad dominated proceedings, creating numerous opportunities to extend their lead before halftime. Despite several clear-cut chances falling to Bryan Mbeumo, they were unable to secure a second goal.

Against the run of play, Nottingham managed to pull level shortly after the break. From a short corner routine, Morato capitalised on some loose marking to head home in the 53rd minute. However, Manchester United’s response was almost immediate, albeit amidst controversy. Following a lengthy VAR review that saw Bryan Mbeumo’s apparent handball in the box go unpunished, Cunha slotted home in the 55th minute, restoring the lead for the Mancunian side.

Bruno Fernandes matches Henry and De Bruyne’s record

Bryan Mbeumo, who had been highly influential but lacked a clinical finish for much of the game, finally got his reward in the 76th minute, converting a powerful cross from Bruno Fernandes right in front of goal. This assist marked Fernandes’ 20th of the season, drawing him level with the Premier League’s historical record held by legendary figures Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. Nottingham kept the tension high when Gibbs-White scored just two minutes later (78th minute), but United steadfastly maintained their advantage through to the final whistle, concluding a truly exhilarating encounter.

Bruno Fernandes will have one final opportunity to surpass the single-season assist record when the Mancunians travel to Brighton next Sunday (5 PM). Nottingham, meanwhile, will aim for a home victory against Bournemouth, who are battling for a strong league finish.
