Nigerian-algerian ties strengthened during Niamey meeting

The Prime Minister of Algeria, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, held a pivotal meeting in Niamey with the President of the Republic of Niger, General Abdourahamane Tiani. This high-level encounter underscored the commitment of both nations to deepen their bilateral cooperation and strengthen their fraternal bonds.

The discussions revolved around the latest advancements in Algerian-Nigerien collaboration. Both leaders reviewed the implementation of agreements reached during President Tiani’s official visit to Algiers in February, as well as the outcomes of the second session of the Great Algerian-Nigerien Joint Cooperation Commission, which took place in Niamey last March.

President Tiani expressed his appreciation for Algeria’s unwavering support, particularly in the rapid completion of the Algerian-Nigerien Solidarity Power Plant. He highlighted the importance of this project as a testament to the strong solidarity and shared vision between the two countries. The President emphasized the need to accelerate the execution of other mutually agreed initiatives to bolster economic integration and regional stability.

During the meeting, President Tiani praised the exceptional pace of cooperation between Algeria and Niger, describing it as a model for South-South collaboration. He reaffirmed his determination to elevate the partnership to new heights, in alignment with the shared aspirations of both nations.

Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, on his part, commended the progress made in bilateral cooperation. He noted that the relationship had entered a new phase, marked by tangible results on the ground, thanks to the strategic guidance of both governments. The Prime Minister reiterated Algeria’s dedication to sustaining and expanding collaboration in key sectors such as energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, health, education, digital technology, and transportation. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the timely completion of strategic projects to support economic development and regional integration.

The leaders also addressed the broader challenges facing the Sahel region. They reaffirmed their commitment to continued bilateral consultations to address these issues, with the goal of enhancing peace, security, and stability in the area.
