With its inaugural national congress less than three weeks away, the leadership of Pastef convened on Friday, May 15, at the Cité Keur Gorgui residence of its prominent leader, Ousmane Sonko. The assembly aimed to initiate the party’s most extensive structural transformation. Key historical figures and influential lieutenants, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé, were present at the crucial meeting.
The meeting’s agenda was clearly shaped by the immediate political landscape. Discussions primarily focused on the logistical and strategic political dimensions of the upcoming national congress, scheduled for June 6, 2026. While the precise venue remains undecided, Diamniadio has emerged as a potential location for this significant event.
Sonko emphasized the paramount importance of a successful congress. The Pastef leader underscored his determination to demonstrate the party’s enduring political strength, stating to his inner circle, “We must ensure the congress is a triumph and effectively re-energize the party.” Beyond the immediate congress, Ousmane Sonko extensively highlighted the imperative to restructure Pastef, aiming for enhanced clarity and operational efficiency.
The leader of the Patriots also addressed the critical issue of remobilization. He articulated the necessity of engaging directly with communities, even in the most remote areas. Following the gathering, El Malick Ndiaye, a prominent Pastef official and President of the National Assembly, conveyed on his Facebook page that “beyond the challenges, bright prospects are emerging for our nation and for our shared collective vision. These prospects, brimming with hope, progress, and sovereignty, are what we will steadfastly continue to build together, with unwavering faith, discipline, and commitment.”
