Real Madrid breaks records with 140 million euro signing of 19-year-old Ivorian winger

The Real Madrid has finalized the acquisition of Yan Diomandé, a 19-year-old Ivorian winger, in a deal reportedly worth €140 million including bonuses. This makes him the most expensive signing in the club’s history and the most costly African player ever transferred.

Record-breaking transfer shakes up football world

The announcement from Real Madrid confirms the arrival of Yan Diomandé, a versatile attacker who can operate on either flank. The club’s official statement revealed a seven-year commitment, extending until June 30, 2033, without disclosing the transfer fee. Spanish media, however, has placed the total value at €140 million, including performance-related bonuses.

Rising star from Côte d’Ivoire makes waves in Europe

Born in Abidjan, Diomandé joined RB Leipzig from Leganés in the summer of 2025. His breakthrough season saw him net 12 goals and provide 8 assists in the Bundesliga, earning him the league’s best young player award. His performances for both club and country at the recent World Cup in North America further cemented his status as one of football’s most exciting prospects.

The young Ivorian becomes the sixth addition to Real Madrid’s squad this transfer window, following the arrivals of Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella, French defender Ibrahima Konaté, Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries, and Spanish striker Carlos Espi. Under the guidance of returning manager José Mourinho, Diomandé is expected to feature prominently on the right wing, alongside established stars Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Junior.
