Ibrahima Diam Sow’s departure from Pastef signals a pivotal moment in Podor’s political landscape. The former party coordinator, now aligning with the Diomaye-Président coalition, articulates a fresh perspective, emphasizing that “the nation takes precedence over the party.”
The political scene within the Podor department has experienced a fresh development with the exit of a prominent local figure from the Pastef party. Ibrahima Diam Sow, who served as the inaugural coordinator for Pastef in the Méri commune and presides over the Mouvement des Patriotes Soumis (MPI), has formally declared his dissociation from the political group led by Ousmane Sonko.
As a former communication official for Pastef in the Podor region, Ibrahima Diam Sow attributes his withdrawal to profound disagreements with the party’s current direction. He specifically points to what he describes as «numerous contradictions» and criticizes an internal atmosphere he likens to a «dictatorship of single thought.» In his view, these developments prevent him from identifying with Pastef’s political vision any longer.
Embracing a new political path, the seasoned leader now openly supports the Diomaye-Président coalition and expresses his commitment to backing the initiatives of the head of state, Bassirou Diomaye Faye. His stance, he asserts, is driven by a core belief encapsulated by his declaration: «We prioritize the nation above the party.»
A foundational figure for Pastef during its nascent stages in northern Senegal, Ibrahima Diam Sow played a significant role in establishing the party’s presence in this crucial area. Notably, he was instrumental in orchestrating Ousmane Sonko’s inaugural visit to the region in 2017 and engaged in various mobilization campaigns alongside local political figures, including Ibrahima Sy.
