African textile care sector gathers in Abidjan to boost industrialization

The economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire is hosting the third edition of the African Forum for Textile Care Professionals (FAPET) starting May 20, 2026. Held at Abidjan-Plateau, this gathering brings together key stakeholders from across Africa to discuss critical issues surrounding the modernization and industrialization of the textile care sector on the continent.

Driving sustainable growth through innovation and eco-friendly practices

Themed “Structuring, ecological transition and innovation: heading toward sustainable industrialization in Africa’s textile care sector”, the event was inaugurated in the presence of Soro Mamadou, representing the Chair of the Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural Council (CESEC). Addressing delegates, he emphasized the growing significance of textile care in Africa’s economic development.

Once viewed as a secondary industry, textile care has evolved into a vital contributor to job creation, environmental sustainability and service enhancement in sectors such as healthcare and tourism. “Africa must develop its own value chains, upgrade infrastructure and professionalize its workforce to meet global standards,” Soro Mamadou stated to the assembled African delegations.

Key challenges and collaborative solutions

Discussions highlighted persistent hurdles, including informal practices, limited technical training, restricted access to financing and the urgent need for ecological transition. Yoboué Célestin-Arthur, President of the African Federation of Textile Care Professionals (FAPET), underscored these points while acknowledging the sector’s mobilization efforts.

He commended the active involvement of leaders like Fayçal Belaroussi, Vice President of FAPET and President of Algeria’s National Pressing and Laundry Association, as well as M. Adebayo, President of the Fabricare Professionals and Dryclean Association. Their participation reflects a collective commitment to advancing the industry.

Building partnerships for a thriving future

Organizers are positioning this forum as a catalyst for Côte d’Ivoire’s economic growth, fostering knowledge-sharing, public-private partnerships and the adoption of modern, sustainable practices. Running from May 20 to 22, 2026, the event will delve into best practices for managing hospital, industrial and household linen, while charting a roadmap for the sector’s industrialization across Africa.
