François Silibi officially joins Bénin’s National Assembly following Louis Vlavonou’s transition to the Senate

François Silibi took office as a deputy in Bénin’s National Assembly on Friday, July 10, 2026, filling the vacancy left by Louis Vlavonou, who moved to the Senate as a member of right due to his former role as President of the National Assembly.

Silibi’s swearing-in ceremony took place immediately after the plenary session held at the Palais des Gouverneurs in Porto-Novo. The new deputy, born in 1982, is an English professor and hails from Ifangni, the same hometown as his predecessor.

With this appointment, François Silibi now represents the Ifangni constituency in the 10th legislature. His mandate, inherited from Louis Vlavonou, will run until the scheduled end of the legislative term in February 2033.

Silibi previously served as the deputy of the former President of the National Assembly. His transition to full parliamentary status marks a significant step in his political career, following Vlavonou’s retirement from the lower house to join the Senate on July 30, 2026.

This reshuffle ensures continuity in the representation of Ifangni while maintaining the legislative agenda until the next elections.
