Chadian authorities halt distribution of non-compliant yogurt brands

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Chad recently announced the immediate recall of several yogurt batches produced in N’Djamena. This decisive action, communicated on July 10, follows rigorous inspections that uncovered significant deviations from established health and quality protocols.

Dr. Guibolo Fanga Mathieu, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, confirmed that the directive stems from findings by the Centre de contrôle de qualité des denrées alimentaires (CECOQDA). This agency conducted comprehensive verification missions across various yogurt production facilities within the capital between June 1 and June 5, 2026.

Our investigations revealed that laboratory analyses of collected samples indicated unsatisfactory microbiological and physicochemical quality. Furthermore, inspectors identified critical lapses in hygiene practices, product preservation, and overall sanitary safety measures at these production sites.

The businesses identified by the Ministry as failing to meet these essential standards are: Tami yaourt, Alkhiza yaourt, Lazza Yaourt, and Yaourt Gamar.

Given the potential health risks posed to consumers, the Minister has mandated the immediate removal of all yogurt batches from these four companies from the market. Their distribution remains suspended indefinitely until they can demonstrate full compliance with the required regulations.

The Ministry has urged these manufacturers to promptly address the issues highlighted by CECOQDA and implement the necessary corrective measures to bring their products up to current national standards.

Looking ahead, the Ministry has indicated that these stringent quality controls will be expanded to encompass all food production and commercialization units throughout Chad. The public is strongly advised to exercise vigilance regarding food product choices.
