Fan disruption forces early end to Nantes vs Toulouse Ligue 1 match
Frustrated supporters invaded the pitch after learning their team’s relegation was confirmed.
The final matchday of Ligue 1 turned chaotic when Nantes supporters stormed the Stade de la Beaujoire pitch during their side’s goalless draw with Toulouse on Sunday, May 17. With Nantes already relegated to Ligue 2, and Toulouse mathematically safe from relegation, the 0-0 scoreline failed to calm tensions.
Dozens of black-clad fans, some wearing club scarves and hoods, breached pitchside security from the Tribune Loire, releasing smoke flares before players were forced to flee toward the dressing rooms.
Halilhodzic confronts agitators
Nantes manager Vahid Halilhodzic attempted to confront the pitch invaders but was restrained by staff. His frustration boiled over in the locker room, where he vented his anger on camera. Though most protesters retreated to the stands, the match remained suspended as officials from the French Football League and local authorities convened an emergency meeting to decide the game’s fate.
