Gabon and IMF advance economic cooperation talks

The Gabonese government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are progressing steadily in their negotiations for a new economic cooperation framework. Officials emphasize that “the dialogue remains active and constructive, reflecting shared commitment to responsible financial governance”.

Following the conclusion of the spring meetings in April, Gabonese officials and IMF teams have maintained a structured schedule of virtual consultations. These sessions focus primarily on technical assessments aligned with a jointly established roadmap. On July 2, 2026, in Washington, the Gabonese Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt Management, and Price Control, Thierry Minko, held a productive meeting with the IMF’s Africa Director and their team, including the mission chief for Gabon, Aliona Cebotari.

The ongoing discussions are centered on key areas such as the 2026 revised budget law, the macroeconomic and fiscal framework for 2027-2029, gradual consolidation of economic and financial data, and preparations for the next phase of engagement with the Fund.
