Colonel Michaël Randrianirina arrived in Libreville last Friday for talks with President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. The visit, part of efforts to strengthen friendship and cooperation between Gabon and Madagascar, saw the Malagasy leader undertake a 48-hour working and friendship trip to the Gabonese capital.
During his stay, President Randrianirina was received at the Palais Rénovation by President Oligui Nguema. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and the ongoing refoundation process in Madagascar. The Malagasy delegation also attended a presentation by Professor Guy Rossatanga-Rignault on the key stages of Gabon’s transition and the principles that guided the return to constitutional order.
President Oligui Nguema reaffirmed Gabon’s readiness to support Madagascar in its institutional restoration efforts. For his part, the Malagasy leader expressed interest in drawing from Gabon’s experience in governance and institutional consolidation. At the conclusion of their talks, both heads of state celebrated the excellent relations between their two countries.
It is worth recalling that in October 2025, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina took power in Madagascar following massive youth protests against former President Andry Rajoelina, sparked by severe water and electricity shortages.
