Gabonese president’s four-day diplomatic visit to Gambia kicks off

The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, arrived yesterday in Banjul, Gambia’s capital, for a four-day working and friendship visit. He was warmly received by Gambia’s Head of State, Adama Barrow, who hosted a private meeting. This was followed by bilateral talks at the official residence, where both leaders reviewed existing cooperation areas and explored fresh avenues for partnership. The two presidents reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between Gabon and Gambia, with a focus on sustainable economic growth. A second meeting is scheduled for today with the Gambian leader.

This visit, aimed at reinforcing the Libreville-Banjul axis, will also provide an opportunity for the Gabonese Head of State to tour key government facilities and historical landmarks. Among the planned stops are the National Food and Drug Quality Control Laboratory in Brusubi, the University of The Gambia, the National Emergency Treatment Centre in Farato, and the Kachikally Crocodile Pool in Bakau.

A state banquet hosted by President Barrow in honor of his distinguished guest is also on the agenda.

Gambia’s economy is primarily driven by tourism, agriculture, and re-export trade. Recent data shows a real GDP growth rate of 6.1%, largely fueled by a robust services sector.

This official trip by Gabon’s top leader is part of a broader continental tour, focusing on West African nations.
