Granit Xhaka’s surprise move: a premier league powerhouse secures a personal agreement
Granit Xhaka appears on the cusp of a significant transfer to Chelsea. Reports circulating over the weekend indicated that the London club had submitted a thirty million euro offer to acquire the experienced midfielder. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the 33-year-old player has already reached a personal agreement with the Blues.
An exclusive update reveals that Granit Xhaka and Chelsea have forged a verbal understanding regarding his potential move. All personal terms have been thoroughly agreed upon, clearing a major hurdle for the transfer to proceed.
Chelsea is also actively engaged in discussions with Sunderland, Xhaka’s current club. Interestingly, Xabi Alonso is reportedly making concerted efforts to facilitate Xhaka’s recruitment, leveraging their shared history at Bayer Leverkusen where they played together from 2023 to 2025.
Xhaka’s distinguished career began at FC Basel, followed by impactful spells at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Arsenal, and Leverkusen, before his fifteen million euro move to Sunderland a year ago.
During his tenure with Sunderland, who concluded last season’s Premier League campaign impressively in seventh place, the Swiss international participated in 36 official matches, contributing one goal and providing six assists.
Despite his current contract with Sunderland extending until mid-2028, his market valuation, according to current estimates, stands at eight million euros.
A formidable left-footed player with 149 international caps, Xhaka is currently captaining Switzerland at the ongoing World Cup. He demonstrated unwavering commitment by playing every minute of the group stage. Switzerland ultimately topped Group B and is now set to face a third-placed team in the upcoming knockout round.
