Madagascar independence: Gabon’s vice premier represents oligui nguema

On behalf of head of state Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, vice-president of the government (VPG) Hermann Immongault attended the 66th anniversary ceremonies of Madagascar’s accession to international sovereignty on June 26 in Antananarivo. Alongside other delegation leaders, Hermann Immongault observed the military parade at Mahamasina Stadium, which highlighted the dedication, patriotism, and modernisation of the Armed Forces. This commemoration was held under the theme “reform for Madagascar’s development.”

The VPG’s presence underscores the excellent ties between the Gabonese and Malagasy peoples. It reflects, in many respects, the determination of Libreville and Antananarivo to further energise their exchanges. This follows the visit of Madagascar’s president of the Refoundation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, to Libreville from June 5 to 7. The highlight of that trip was a private meeting with his Gabonese counterpart, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, at the Palais du Bord de Mer. Afterwards, Randrianirina emphasised his desire to draw lessons from Gabon’s transition process while commending the achievements made during that period.

In short, by dispatching the government action coordinator to these celebrations, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema reaffirms Gabon’s strategic interest in closer ties with the Big Island. The stepped-up high-level exchanges between the two countries thus open a new era of cooperation, promising politically, diplomatically, culturally, and in terms of economic development.
