Maroc and Bénin strengthen ties in key sectors

The Republic of Bénin and the Kingdom of Morocco have expressed mutual satisfaction with the progress of their bilateral cooperation, while reaffirming their shared commitment to deepen and diversify these ties.

During preparatory discussions ahead of the co-chairing of the 7th session of the Morocco-Bénin Joint Cooperation Commission, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad Nasser Bourita, and Bénin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of Afro-descendant integration Corinne Amori Brunet—accompanied by Delegated Minister for Resource Mobilization and Debt Management Hugues Oscar Lokossou—highlighted the major strides made across various cooperation sectors since His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s state visit to Cotonou in June 2004.

The talks, which centered on evaluating the current state of bilateral cooperation and exploring avenues to inject renewed momentum, also underscored the deep-rooted friendship and mutual respect between the two nations. This bond is exemplified by the strong rapport between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Bénin’s President Romuald Wadagni. Both sides reiterated their shared vision to elevate Bénino-Moroccan relations into a benchmark for inter-African collaboration, anchored in solidarity, exchange, and mutual benefit.

Key priority sectors identified for expansion include economy, trade, industry, investment, tourism, agriculture, justice, security, vocational training, higher education, scientific research, health, digital innovation, and culture.

In a bid to solidify economic ties, the two delegations emphasized the importance of fostering a robust private-sector partnership. This collaboration aims to drive economic exchanges and mobilize private investments to support sustainable development initiatives in both countries.
