Between June 23 and June 29, the Malian military successfully secured the passage of a massive convoy consisting of 940 civilian supply trucks destined for Bamako. This major logistics operation took place along the vital Kayes-Sandare-Diema-Bamako road network.
A coordinated military operation
The mission began with the protection of 540 vehicles traveling from Kayes to Sandare. During the journey, a secondary military force arriving from Diema joined the operation. Along the route, several trucks that had been immobilized were integrated into the group, bringing the final count to 940 vehicles before the final leg toward the capital.
Security forces confirmed that the entire convoy reached Bamako without any significant disruptions. The journey involved navigating through several key towns situated along this essential transport artery.
Securing strategic supply lines
This large-scale escort comes at a time when road security has faced challenges, contributing to recent fuel supply instabilities in Bamako. By ensuring the safe arrival of these goods, the military is addressing critical needs within the capital.
The Kayes-Bamako corridor remains a fundamental trade route, connecting the heart of Mali to western regions and providing access to maritime gateways in Senegal and Mauritania. This path is indispensable for the transport of essential commodities, including petroleum products, food supplies, and industrial equipment destined for local markets.
