The Union démocratique du Cameroun, led by Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya, has voiced strong opposition to the reported mistreatment of a citizen.
The Union démocratique du Cameroun (UDC) is expressing profound alarm over reports that political activist Jacques Bertrand Mang was subjected to torture and various forms of inhumane treatment. Through its president, Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya, the party is forcefully denouncing these actions, which are strictly forbidden under the laws of Cameroun. The UDC stated that if these accounts are confirmed, they represent a flagrant violation of human rights and the core tenets of the rule of law.
In an official statement, the political organization emphasized that no form of civic activism or personal disagreement can ever justify the use of violence, cruelty, or degrading treatment. Consequently, the UDC is calling upon the authorities to conduct a transparent investigation into these claims. The goal is to ensure the physical and psychological safety of Jacques Bertrand Mang while guaranteeing that his legal rights are fully respected.
Jacques Bertrand Mang is a well-known figure for his critiques of social inequality, the daily struggles of the people in Cameroun, and general governance failures. He recently became the center of a major controversy following an incident on June 30, 2026, within a police facility in the city of Douala. During a live broadcast on his Facebook page, the activist was seen pleading with officers for his release. The response from officials was that he could not depart while in an agitated state, and he was subsequently blocked from leaving the premises despite several attempts. When he insisted on an immediate exit, he was told he must wait for the arrival of the officer in charge.
This event is part of a broader pattern of pressure against the activist. Jacques Bertrand Mang has previously faced arrest and was even forcibly placed in a medical facility for involuntary psychiatric care. His public statements and digital content, which often target the police, gendarmerie, customs, and municipal authorities, have led to several legal complaints. His criticisms frequently extend to government ministers and other high-profile political and public figures. According to current information, he is presently being held in police custody.
