In a significant move to bolster aviation ties, Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, convened with Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah, President of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Kuwait, in Rabat this Tuesday. The high-level meeting aimed at reinforcing coordination between the two nations across various facets of air navigation.
Held on the sidelines of the 29th session of the general assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, hosted in Morocco, the discussions delved into concrete strategies for enhancing the safety and security of air navigation. Both delegations actively explored avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation, signaling a mutual commitment to advancing their partnership in the aviation sector.
Minister Kayouh highlighted the enduring excellent historical relations between Morocco and Kuwait. He confirmed that a central point of the agenda was the reactivation of the direct air route connecting Kuwait and Casablanca. Kayouh assured that Royal Air Maroc is fully committed to re-establishing this vital link as swiftly as possible, particularly following the integration of its next generation of long-haul aircraft into its fleet.
For his part, Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah confirmed that the two parties also addressed the prospective increase in air traffic between Kuwait and Morocco. This anticipated surge is particularly relevant in the run-up to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal. The discussions underscored the importance of preparing for a projected rise in tourist numbers, benefiting both Morocco and the wider Gulf region.
The assembly concluded with the election of new members to the Organization’s principal bodies for the 2026-2028 term, including the general assembly, executive council, and technical committees. Furthermore, Khalid Cherkaoui was appointed as the new Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization.
