After a ten-day journey through five West African nations, a team of twenty Burkina Faso motorcyclists arrived back in Ouagadougou on August 11, 2026, having covered nearly 3,000 kilometers. The Grand Tour Régional 2026 by the Motards du Faso not only showcased their endurance but also delivered vital road safety messages and charitable support across Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.
Upon their return, the riders were greeted by enthusiastic crowds who celebrated their safe arrival. The opening leg of the expedition set the tone for the entire trip: departing Ouagadougou at 4:30 a.m., the group reached Accra, Ghana, by 3:30 a.m. the following day, after 23 hours on the road including rest stops.
Strengthening bonds and promoting helmet use
« This regional tour is more than a sporting challenge—it’s a way to honor our commitment to road safety and camaraderie, » said Abel Aziz Konaté, president of the Motards du Faso. The expedition was also a follow-up to their 2025 72 Heures des Motards du Burkina event, during which they had invited fellow riders from across the subregion.
The convoy, riding sleek motorcycles and wearing protective gear, traveled through vibrant communities, spreading awareness about the importance of wearing helmets. Konaté emphasized the group’s dedication to voluntary compliance over enforcement: « The goal is for every road user to wear a helmet by choice, not by force. It should become second nature—no one should need a fine to protect themselves. »

Konaté recounted memorable moments: « We left Ouagadougou and passed through Paga before reaching Accra. From Accra, we crossed Togo and entered Benin—each country offered its own unique warmth and lessons. »
