The director general of Gabon Poste, Alfred Ikaka Bobe, announced on Tuesday that his administration has launched an application for postal savers whose funds are frozen, enabling them to verify their names on the lists compiled by the liquidator.
To check their name from a computer or smartphone, users simply access the official online platform. The site, which went live on Monday, experienced heavy traffic after recording around 10,000 visits within a few hours.
“The application has been updated and will be operational again from Wednesday,” Bobe explained.
Savers are asked to confirm they are still alive and can indicate the locality where they wish to receive their payment. The system also covers savers living abroad.
Only those savers who have been properly registered by the liquidator but unfortunately lost their passbook are required to visit a post office to obtain a new one.
In 2017, PostBank SA, a subsidiary of La Poste, went bankrupt, jeopardising the savings of many people. After numerous unfulfilled promises by the former regime of Ali Bongo Ondimba, the transitional government in February 2025 showed its determination to settle the debt.
Approximately 60,000 savers are affected. A package of 31.212 billion CFA francs has been pledged to clear the debt over three years, with one-third disbursed annually.
