Member of Parliament Guy Marius Sagna has disclosed the amounts Ousmane Sonko received under political funds during his tenure as Prime Minister. According to the legislator, these payments totaled 1.7 billion F CFA, disbursed without any institutional oversight—a disclosure that thrusts the National Assembly President into the center of Senegal’s debate on political fund management.

While Sagna acknowledges that the legal framework permits these allocations, he underscores their lack of transparency, a concern echoed by the financial resources reportedly held by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, estimated at over 8 billion F CFA, distributed across political, discretionary, special, and sovereign funds.

The discrepancy between these figures and Sonko’s public advocacy for stricter political fund regulations has drawn sharp criticism from Sagna. The deputy accuses the President of perjury, questioning the sincerity of Faye’s commitment to transparency, particularly given Sonko’s own history of championing regulated political financing—even during his opposition years. “This is the sorcery of some politicians,” Sagna remarked on social media, questioning the authenticity of such contradictory behaviors.
