PSG eyes costly Julian Alvarez transfer amid Champions League ambitions

The dust has barely settled on the UEFA Champions League final, yet Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is already eyeing their next big move. Club leadership is preparing to move swiftly to secure the signature of Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, with reports suggesting a bid exceeding €100 million to pry him away from Atlético de Madrid.

Two summers ago, PSG’s pursuit of Alvarez fell short as the player opted for Atlético de Madrid. The Colchoneros outmaneuvered Manchester City with a bid nearing €75 million, locking down the 26-year-old’s services. Now, the French giants are determined to make a second attempt, with sporting director Luis Campos reportedly reigniting the pursuit to bolster Luis Enrique’s squad this summer.

Recent discussions between PSG officials and Alvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, have signalled the club’s serious intent. However, negotiations were temporarily paused to avoid internal distractions ahead of the Champions League final, ensuring the team’s focus remained uncompromised during the decisive match.

Atlético demands a premium price for Alvarez

Atlético de Madrid is holding firm on its valuation, insisting on a transfer fee well above €100 million for Alvarez. Fresh off back-to-back Champions League titles, the Argentine’s stock has never been higher, and PSG’s hierarchy appears ready to meet—if not exceed—the asking price. The question now hinges on whether Alvarez, fresh off his stellar Champions League performances, will choose the Parc des Princes as his next destination.
