Ruben Amorim shatters AC Milan transfer record with landmark first signing

Ruben Amorim has wasted no time making his mark at San Siro, securing a historic deal that sets a new financial benchmark for the club. In his first major move as manager, the Rossoneri have finalized the high-profile acquisition of Portuguese international Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain.

A record-breaking agreement for the Rossoneri

AC Milan has officially confirmed the arrival of Ramos for a fee estimated at approximately £60 million (€70 million), establishing a new transfer record for the Italian giants. The 25-year-old striker has committed his long-term future to the club, signing a contract that runs until 2031.

This unprecedented investment underscores the determination of the Milan hierarchy to revitalize the squad following a disappointing season. By securing the services of Ramos, the club has surpassed its previous record expenditure of £42 million paid to Lille for winger Rafael Leão in 2019.

An elite journey to San Siro

Ramos arrives in Milan with a distinguished pedigree on both the domestic and international stages. After developing through the academies of Olhanense and Benfica, he rose to global prominence by scoring a sensational hat-trick for Portugal against Switzerland during the 2022 World Cup. His subsequent move to France proved highly successful, as he flourished under the intense pressure of the Parc des Princes.

During his tenure in Paris, Ramos found the back of the net 45 times in 131 appearances. He was a key figure in a dominant period for the club, contributing to three Ligue 1 titles and two Champions League trophies.

A fresh chapter begins for the Rossoneri

The signing of Ramos is intended to provide the clinical finishing that has been absent during the team’s recent struggles. Amorim, who accepted a two-year contract last month, is charged with returning the seven-time European champions to the summit of Italian football. The substantial investment in Ramos proves that the board is fully committed to supporting the former Manchester United manager with elite talent.

Having made over 100 appearances for Benfica, where he established himself as one of Portugal’s most promising attackers, Ramos offers a potent combination of physical power and technical refinement. He is expected to lead the Milan frontline immediately as the club seeks to reclaim its status in Serie A and ensure a return to the top tier of European football.

Parisian squad overhaul continues

While Milan celebrates its new star, PSG is already moving to address the vacancy left by the striker’s departure. The French champions, led by president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting advisor Luis Campos, have reportedly turned their attention to Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig—a player also coveted by Premier League side Liverpool.

Head coach Luis Enrique is looking to rejuvenate his roster following a season that yielded a second consecutive Champions League title and another Ligue 1 crown. To maintain compliance with financial fair play regulations and make room for new arrivals, it is understood that South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in and French international Randal Kolo Muani could be permitted to leave the club.
