Mokhtar Bousso condemns Sonko’s remarks as disrespectful to Touba’s legacy

Mokhtar Bousso, spokesperson for the collective of Serigne Touba’s descendants, addressed the media on RFM radio, calling Ousmane Sonko’s statements a blatant lack of respect toward Touba and its revered founder, Serigne Touba Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba.

« Anyone who questions Serigne Touba’s teachings should never set foot in Touba. Had he truly respected Serigne Touba and his principles, he would never have made such statements about the city, » Bousso asserted.

Touba’s contributions to Senegal highlighted

Bousso emphasized Touba’s pivotal role in Senegal’s development across economic, human, and moral dimensions. « Everyone knows Touba has consistently contributed to the nation’s progress. Ousmane Sonko must respect Touba and, above all, its founder, » he stressed.

Sonko’s ‘dirty money’ allegations spark controversy

The collective’s spokesperson also condemned Sonko’s claims about the existence of ‘dirty money’ circulating in Touba, calling them incompatible with participation in the Grand Magal. « To come to Touba and speak of dirty money is an affront to Serigne Touba. He should not attend the Magal, even though we know Serigne Touba’s doors are open to all, » Bousso declared.

He urged Sonko to reflect deeply on his actions. « It’s time for Ousmane Sonko to ask himself whether he should return to Touba after his recent remarks. If he believes dirty money has been brought into Touba, he should stay away, » Bousso maintained.

Bousso criticized the timing of Sonko’s statements, made just days before the Grand Magal. « Touba is the heart of Mouride Islam. Choosing this moment, when talibés are preparing for the Grand Magal, to make such claims is, in my view, a deliberate attempt to undermine the event’s success, » he concluded.
