Senegalese journalist questioned over controversial remarks on Ousmane Sonko

A prominent Senegalese journalist is under scrutiny following remarks that sparked national debate. Aïssatou Diop Fall, head of Public SN, has been summoned by the Special Cybercrime Division after publicly expressing a wish for opposition leader Ousmane Sonko to be abducted.

Aïssatou Diop Fall has been called in for questioning by the Special Cybercrime Division of Senegal’s National Police. The move follows an independent investigation initiated by the prosecutor’s office at the Dakar High Court. The journalist is expected to appear before investigators today to address statements that have ignited widespread controversy online and across public platforms.

Inflammatory remarks draw legal action

Tensions escalated after the journalist publicly stated a desire for Ousmane Sonko, leader of the PASTEF party, to be kidnapped by armed groups. The remarks triggered immediate backlash, prompting Diop Fall to issue a public apology in a recorded statement, expressing deep regret over her words.

Despite her apology, prosecutorial authorities pressed forward with legal proceedings. The prosecutor overseeing the case directed the cybercrime unit to summon the journalist for formal questioning regarding the statements.
