Campaign Resumes With Fresh Momentum
Following weeks of pause tied to the Grand Magal celebrations in Touba, Pastef party leader Ousmane Sonko has restarted his nationwide card sales campaign with renewed vigor. The initiative, launched during the « 48H Pastef » event in Touba, had already seen the opposition leader travel through key locations including Bargny, Sébikotane, Khombole, Bambey, Keur Madiabel, and Mbacké. Each stop has drawn massive crowds, with July 26’s event coinciding with the launch of the new presidential party, Kiiraay.
Senegal’s political landscape remains charged as Sonko adapts his strategy to growing internal shifts. His latest push aims to achieve a milestone of one million new members by October, a target he reiterated during a stop in Mbacké, where he emphasized the department’s potential to single-handedly reach that figure. Past rallies have frequently led to rapid sell-outs of membership cards, prompting the party to arrange quick restocking operations to meet surging demand.
Political Tensions Shape New Phase
Sonko’s return comes amid heightened political dynamics, including a finalized split between him and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, as well as the emergence of the Kiiraay party. These developments have led to the departure of several Pastef officials in recent weeks. In response, Sonko has urged his supporters to move past internal discussions and focus on the campaign’s ongoing goals.
