The Scientific Group SIGMA in Togo and the École Supérieure des Agricultures (ESA) from France have solidified a significant advancement in their academic collaboration. On Monday, June 15, 2026, in Lomé, the two esteemed institutions formally established a strategic partnership designed to enhance the training of aspiring agricultural engineers in Togo.
This innovative cooperation will commence with the inauguration of a Scientific Preparatory Class, specifically tailored for young science baccalaureate holders, starting with the 2026-2027 academic year.
a pioneering pathway for scientific baccalaureate graduates
Unveiled during a press conference with media professionals, this new educational offering aims to equip students for advanced agricultural engineering studies. It also seeks to address the growing demands of the agricultural sector not only within Togo but across the entire West African sub-region.
The joint ambition of SIGMA and ESA is to develop highly skilled professionals capable of driving the agricultural, food, and environmental transformations currently facing the African continent.
“connecting excellence to the earth”

Dr. Ingénieur Beaugrain Domongue, Director of Development and Foresight for the Scientific Group SIGMA, emphasized that this initiative aligns with a broader vision to modernize the agricultural sector through scientific advancement and innovation.
“Our goal is to connect excellence with the land, bolster the innovative capacity of our producers, and apply knowledge to foster the development of our food sovereignty,” Dr. Domongue stated.
He further highlighted that this collaboration between SIGMA and ESA represents a significant innovation within Togo’s higher education landscape.
esa’s pedagogical expertise at the forefront
As part of this cooperative effort, the École Supérieure des Agricultures will contribute its renowned pedagogical expertise. This includes providing comprehensive training frameworks, strengthening the capabilities of local educators, and participating in academic assessment juries.
The partnership also features an annual “Summer Workshop” hosted at ESA’s campus in Angers, France. This invaluable experience will offer students international exposure and immersive learning within a globally recognized academic setting.
The curriculum will place a strong emphasis on life sciences, agriculture, environmental studies, food systems, and technological innovation. It will leverage the active pedagogical methods for which the French institution is widely acclaimed.
a comprehensive five-year journey to become an agricultural engineer
The preparatory training component will span two academic years, focusing on reinforcing scientific knowledge and building foundational understanding in agriculture, animal husbandry, and food science.
Upon successful completion of this initial phase, students will transition into ESA’s three-year engineering cycle. This rigorous program culminates in the awarding of an agricultural engineer diploma.

This pioneering program is designed to meet the increasing demand for experts who can navigate the evolving agricultural sector and significantly contribute to strengthening food sovereignty across Africa.
