Togo welcomes three new ambassadors in diplomatic milestone

Lomé’s diplomatic landscape expanded further this week as the Togolese presidency welcomed three newly accredited ambassadors, each representing nations with deepening ties to West Africa’s smallest yet most strategically positioned country.

In a formal ceremony at the presidential palace, the Head of State accepted the credentials of ambassadors from Canada, Pakistan, and Ghana, signaling a new chapter in Togo’s evolving foreign relations.

Canada and Togo: A partnership built on shared values

Myriam Montrat, Canada’s newly appointed Ambassador to Togo, outlined a forward-looking agenda centered on economic cooperation, social development, and regional stability. As a former director general for inclusive growth at Global Affairs Canada, she brings extensive experience in fostering equitable partnerships.

Her mission priorities reflect Canada’s commitment to supporting Togo’s progress across key sectors:

  • Trade and economic ties: Deepening commercial exchanges and exploring new investment opportunities.
  • Education and health: Strengthening collaborative initiatives in public health and access to quality education.
  • Gender equality: Promoting policies and programs that empower women and girls across both nations.
  • Regional security: Reinforcing Togo’s role in maintaining peace and stability across the West African subregion.

Pakistan seeks to deepen economic and technological collaboration

Najeeb Durrani, Pakistan’s envoy to Togo, emphasized the need to expand bilateral relations beyond traditional diplomacy. With a background in high-level diplomatic roles in Beirut and Dubai, he aims to inject fresh momentum into Pakistan-Togo ties.

His vision includes strengthening cooperation in:

  • Foreign policy alignment and strategic dialogue.
  • Agricultural innovation and food security initiatives.
  • Technological exchange and digital transformation projects.
  • Joint efforts in countering transnational threats.

This accreditation aligns with Togo’s strategy to diversify partnerships and attract investment from emerging Asian economies.

Ghana-Togo: A bond rooted in culture and shared destiny

George Kofi Nfojoh, Ghana’s new Ambassador, highlighted the unbreakable cultural and historical ties between the two neighboring nations. “We are one people,” he stated, underscoring the deep social and familial connections that transcend borders.

His agenda focuses on:

  • Enhancing cross-border trade and mobility for citizens and businesses.
  • Strengthening joint security measures to address regional challenges such as terrorism and illicit trafficking.
  • Promoting cultural and educational exchanges to preserve shared heritage.

With decades of diplomatic experience and a background in international relations and parliamentary affairs, Ambassador Nfojoh is well-positioned to advance this historic partnership.
