Yaoundé launches major drinking water network reconfiguration project

The cornerstone of Yaoundé’s drinking water supply network reconfiguration project was laid on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in Minkoameyos. This initiative aims to provide lasting improvements to water access for several communities in Cameroon’s capital and its surrounding areas.

The official ceremony marking the start of the project took place on Thursday at the esplanade of the Yaoundé VII town hall in Minkoameyos. The event was chaired by the Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, alongside the Director General of Camwater, Dr. Blaise Moussa, as well as government members, diplomatic corps, local elected officials, and civil society representatives.

Ordered by President Paul Biya, this key project aims to strengthen drinking water delivery for residents of Yaoundé, Soa, Akak, Mfou, Bikok, and Mbankomo — particularly those not yet connected to the network or facing frequent interruptions.

Non-domestic subscribers, including industries, schools, and hospitals, are also among the main beneficiaries of this initiative.

To ensure the project’s success, Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba urged all stakeholders to work hand in hand and in perfect synergy to facilitate field operations. For his part, Camwater’s Director General assured that his institution will spare no effort to support and assist in overcoming any challenges that may arise during the execution of this critical project, for the benefit of the growing daily needs of Yaoundé and its environs.
