AES officials discuss security cooperation during Niamey summit

Niamey, July 27, 2026 – High-level consultations among officials from the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) continue as the region marks three years since the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) assumed power. Today, General Mohamed Toumba, Niger’s Minister of State for Interior, Public Security, and Territorial Administration, met with Bassolma Bazié, President of Burkina Faso’s National Commission for the AES Confederation.

During his visit to Niger to participate in commemorative events, the Burkinabè official paid a courtesy call at the Ministry of Interior. The meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to discuss pressing issues facing AES member states.

Security initiatives and regional stability take center stage in AES talks

During the discussions, Bassolma Bazié commended Niger’s leadership for its proactive measures in enhancing security nationwide and across the confederation’s broader territory. The Burkinabè representative emphasized the critical role such efforts play in protecting civilian populations and fostering long-term stability.

The talks also highlighted the AES’s commitment to deepening collaboration in addressing shared security challenges. With regional threats persisting, member states are prioritizing coordinated strategies to bolster defense mechanisms and ensure collective resilience.
