In a significant move to strengthen bilateral ties, Algeria and Chad have inked a fresh agreement in N’Djamena, designed to fast-track infrastructure and public works projects, including the ambitious trans-Saharan highway. The announcement comes as part of a high-level visit by an Algerian delegation to Chad, aimed at solidifying cooperation between the two nations.
The accord was formally signed by Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, and Amir Idriss Kourda, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Rural Development, and Road Maintenance. The signing ceremony took place during a coordination meeting in N’Djamena, held on the second day of the Algerian delegation’s working visit.
Key figures from both countries attended the gathering, including the Director-General of Algeria’s Agency for International Cooperation and Solidarity for Development, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and senior representatives from the Cosider Group and Algeria’s National Company for Public Works (SNTP). On the Chadian side, the meeting was attended by the Minister Delegate for Infrastructure and several top-ranking officials.
During the discussions, Amir Idriss Kourda highlighted the rapid momentum in implementing bilateral agreements, underscoring the tangible progress made since the initial accords were signed in April in Algiers. He pointed to collaborative technical missions and the initiation of feasibility studies for the trans-Saharan road project, which will traverse Chadian territory.
